PALACE THEATRE
COLUMBUS, OHIO
MARCH 4, 2006
My first Irish Tenors' concert and I was so glad I came.
I've seen them on TV and I have I have all their CDs. But last night was
my first opportunity to see them in person and I wasn't disappointed.
I thought Anthony Kearns, singing "Off to Philadelphia" was wonderful, and
he certainly is a good looking gentleman. The ladies around me were
obviously impressed. I particularly enjoyed hearing him sing "The West's
Awake" after reading the fascinating history of the song on this website.
And although I was surprised to hear him sing "Scorn Not His Simplicity"
( I associated that song with Ronan Tynan) that, too, was very impressive.
My favorite selection of Finbar Wright's was "Forty Shades of Green". I can't
remember his other selections, but I think anything he sings is good just
because he sings it. His voice is so rich.
And John was a pleasant surprise. His voice is completely different
from the other two, but blends beautifully. I loved "The Old Man".
They also sang "Danny Boy", of course. And my favorite, "Isle of Hope,
Isle of Tears."
I was disappointed to hear there wouldn't be a Meet and Greet, but
the concert was so enjoyable that it really didn't matter. That will
come next time. And after tonight, I'm sure there will be a next time.
