SPRING TOUR
State Theater for the Performing Arts
Easton, PA
February 23, 2007
This was my first Irish Tenors' concert and what a joy it was.
I've been enjoying Anthony's Fan's Site for years yet somehow had never had
the opportunity to attend a concert. But I was visiting friends in Easton yesterday
and they, knowing my Irish background, had very kindly gotten tickets for us.
I'd been to the State Theatre back when it was a movie theatre and I was
struck by the dramatic change. It's truly beautiful now.
I have no basis for comparison other than having enjoyed the Tenors on PBS and
on CDs, but I can definitely say that they are even better in person.
They are all such pleasant looking gentlemen and while I realize a person often
presents an entirely different picture on stage than off, I have the feeling this is a
case where all are just as nice as the picture they present to an audience.
As I read past reviews, I believe this concert had more Irish music than is usually
the case. I won't go into great detail, as I wasn't taking notes. But it seemed that
both the selections with all three as well as the individual offerings were mainly Irish.
As I remember, they started with "Star of Country Down" and "God Bless America"
was the final selection. Besides those, I particularly enjoyed several songs in what
I assume was Gaelic as well as "Palantine's Daughter," "Little Bridget Flynn," "Last
Rose of Summer," "Lift the Wings," "Forty Shades of Green," "Go, Lassy, Go,"
(one of my favorites and they did it so well), "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen,"
and a wonderful "My Heart Will Go On".
My final thought was....anyone who hasn't seen the Irish Tenors really should. This
was my first concert, but it certainly won't be my last.
