NORTH PENN HIGH SCHOOL
LANSDALE, PA
May 21, 2005

Saturday night, nearly 2,000 people were treated to one of the best
concerts in the Lansdale Series. Patrons made contributions and in turn
could choose which concerts they wished to attend. Anyone choosing the Anthony Kearns Concert was not disappointed.

I drove to the concert, which took place at North Penn High School, and after finding a place to park, made my way up the steps and into the venue, anticipating an evening of great music. I was, as promised, allowed to pick where I wanted to sit. It was general seating and as I was early, I was lucky enough to find a seat in the front row. I sat down and waited for the
program to start.

Anthony Kearns and Patrick Healy came out to a round of applause and were obviously very pleased to see a full house.

Anthony opened with Sweet Vale of Avoca, and it was beautiful. Strong and
polished. Next was Little Grey Home of the West and Trottin' to the Fair. Younger Than Springtime was magnificent. In my opinion, it's one of the best things Anthony does. Smilin' Through was beautifully done, with lovely, soft high notes. As usual, the two duets were the highlights of the evening. The audience loved The Bold Gendarmes, as well as the duet which Patrick wrote. In the past it was called Friendship. But Saturday night, Anthony never mentioned it by that name. He simply called it "The Tenor Duet."

Another standout was I Saw From the Beach by Thomas Moore. Anthony
talked about it, and the older folks really loved the song, and the expressive way he sang it. There were plenty of high notes with Return to Sorrento and O Sole Mio (his 2nd encore.) The first encore was a marvelous La Mattinata. The audience really responded to Danny Boy, and some in the audience cried when he sang it.

Patrick Healy nearly stole the show! The audience loved him, and they had
good taste. Patrick told the story of Tosca and the trampoline and the cat
on the roof, and read funny church bulletins. The audience thoroughly enjoyed
them all. He sang Galway Bay and And Her Mother came Too, both with great
facial expressions.

The audience was thrilled with the entire performance and didn't want to let
them off the stage. And I should add that during intermission, the CDs
were selling like hot cakes.

All in all, it was a lovely evening.
