MEMORIAL STADIUM
LOUISVILLE, KY
OCTOBER 29, 2006
I had the most fortunate pleasure to hear and see Anthony in Louisville
on Sunday October. 29th. When I heard he was coming several
months ago, I knew nothing would stop me from going to this performance.
I asked one of my sisters to be my guest as she is as appreciative of a
great voice as am I. Anthony sounded a bit congested, with a stuffy
nose, but it didn't affect his voice at all. He started with songs with
which I was unfamiliar, but then did Eileen Og, Girl from County Clare, and
Gounod's Ave Maria, which was absolutely fantastic!!! He took about a
10 minute break in which Patrick Healy read the "letter from home" which
I have seen on the Internet, but Patrick read it with such flare, it was
hysterical. After an intermission, Patrick read the notes from church
bulletins that can easily be misconstrued, and I nearly laughed 'til I cried.
I really enjoyed the song the two of them sang which Patrick wrote,
"Friendship" I believe it was. Very clever. I have to say that, although
we were in row Z (fabulous old theater on the campus of Spalding
University) I was mesmerized...as if under a spell, because, in my
opinion, Anthony has THE BEST voice in the world today. I have
never heard such talent, what a gift he has and he uses it so well.
During the middle of the program, he sang an Italian aria (which I
have heard dozens of times and can't think of the name of it), and
he nearly received an ovation for that, the audience roared! Then
at the end, he sang "Danny Boy" which garnered the first of three
standing ovations, he did "O Sole Mio" and ended with a third song
that I hadn't heard before, he told us the name, I didn't write it down,
and now it's gone.
But it was a spectacular night, Anthony was beyond superior,
and it was only my second IT performance in 5 years! I have to
get out more!!!
Anyway, I met two listers from the IT list, and that was fun, and
I didn't stay for the reception, but it sounded like it was very personal.
There's always next time.
Happy Listening!
