It was cold. Too cold for man or beast. Certainly too cold to venture outside
for a concert. But then...it was The Irish Tenors...and therein lay the
difference. While it wasn't a full house, there was a more than respectable
crowd, and I'd guess (from the positions of the empty seats) that some elder
fans didn't feel up to braving the weather.
Many of us had come from out of town and had to wend our way in temps
of around 5 degrees to and from our cars or from the reasonably close (thank
heaven) Doubletree Hotel. I'll mention that the hardy ones included the Fan's
Site's top photograhers Betty and Charlie Johnson and Genevieve Rafter-Keddy
and sketch artist Dr. Keith Eveland.
Finbar pointed out that every time they come to Lowell...there is
snow. But..beautiful.
I won't go into great program detail because the selections didn't vary that
much his season. I, personally, am delighted by the preponderance of Irish
songs. They are, after all, The Irish Tenors.
But to mention a few...:
Rose of Tralee
The Palentine's Daughter (as only Anthony can do it)
Forty Shades of Green
The Last Rose of Summer
My Heart Will Go On (breathtaking)
Lift the Wings
Grace (one of my personal favorites)
Phil the Fluther's Ball
Will You Go Lassee Go
I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen
Danny Boy
God Bless America
Karl Scully has proven to be the perfect addition to the group. He has a beautiful...
I'd even describe it as sweet...voice, and a sunny personality to go with it.
It was well worth the venture into the cold and (speaking for myself...I must
get a map) getting very lost between Lowell and my home in Maine.
