LANDMARK THEATRE
RICHMOND, VA
December 8, 2010
The concert was a success for the Irish Tenors. The Tenors were as
I had expected and the Richmond Symphony played beautifully.
I thought Anthony was better than ever, if that's possible.
Arnie Roth was the conductor and the concert master/first violinist
was a young woman who played her solos as softly and beautifully
as I have ever heard.
The Tenors wore black suits with plain red ties and red roses. It was
so good to see Karl Scully back with them. I feel his voice fits
wonderfully well with the other two. Several people had "welcome
back Karl" signs and when Karl saw them, a huge smile came over
his face.
By the way, the Landmark Theater is absolutely beautiful and quite large.
The crowd was excellent. All of the main floor was full except the last
two rows in the rear. The first balcony was about 70% full - all but
the two sides that curved around the theater. The second balcony
was very small - only about half full, and all of them in the center -
nobody on the sides that curved around the theater.
The venue did not seem to have any camera police and I saw people
taking pictures.
The M&G was, unfortunately, extremely brief. The man I assumed
was their manager kept telling them they had to go...no doubt to
get to the next concert on time.
All in all, I'm glad I went. There's nothing like the Irish Tenors,
particularly at Christmas.
